Keeper of the Key
I'm the Keeper of the Key,
Never mind my name,
I'm the very enemy.
Yes, I'm the Keeper of the Key,
I'm trying to catch me breath,
Life flows from under me.
One night a man ran up to me,
And begged me, 'Keep this bloody key!
Gotta split, too many enemies!'
When I looked, no one I could see.
The key looked hardly ever used,
I wonder why I never did refuse,
I kept it close, running through my days,
Changing my life and my ways.
A city's key, but where to begin,
Don't even trust your next of kin,
Find its gate, open its door,
Who knows what fortune lies in store.
I lost my job, my wife and kids,
They never understood what I did,
Sold my stuff, bought me a gun,
Spend nights and days on the run.
Here they come! Where can I run!
Who to turn to? What have I done?
I cried, but there just ain't no one
To let me in from the evening sun,
Where's this city and where its gate?
How much longer must I wait?
I spot this man right next to me,
'Hey man, keep this key for me!'
- And set me free!
I'm the Keeper of the Key,
Never mind my name,
I'm the very enemy.
Yes, I'm the Keeper of the Key
Trying to outrun my death,
Life flows from under me.
